BWYA’s budding artists got to benefit from advice and portfolio reviews from some of North America’s top art and design colleges recently as the Wangjing Campus hosted a mini-art fair with p-review, the international portfolio review forum.

BWYA Students Exhibit at Korean Cultural Center

Seven BWYA students had the opportunity to exhibit their works as part of the 3rd International Youth Art Exhibition at the Korean Cultural Center. The beautifully presented exhibition opened on April 13th and was organized by LineArt Studio, a Korean organization with student-members from many of Beijing’s international schools.

DP2 Artists Open Their Final Exhibition

Eleven IB Diploma Programme Visual Arts students opened their final exhibition on the fourth floor of BWYA Wang Jing campus A-Building on April 2nd, with many classmates, staff, parents and friends in attendance. Throughout the two-year diploma course, each student focused on a specific theme which guided their investigation and production of their artwork.

Art, Drama and Diplomacy

Happy Year of the Snake! For DP2 students, the new lunar year has started with the mock examinations. They have already submitted their Extended Essays and TOK essays, and have completed their internal assessments in many subjects. When they finish their mock examinations they will have just six weeks in the classroom before going on study leave to prepare for the final examinations in May.

Dreaming of a Birch Tree Forest

One of the projects E5 students have been working on in Ms. Roya’s Arts class is the ‘Dream-like Birch Tree Forest’. Using what they have learned about colour theory and modern art movements, they use chalk and pastel to evoke an emotional landscape scene. Here are some fine examples of their finished work.

Amelia Zhang ’11: Award Winning Artist

Amelia Zhang ’11 (right, with Claire Fujita ’11) is already an award-winning artist, having recently won First Place in the Virtual Art section of the 6th Arte Laguna Prize. While at BWYA, she co-founded the Beijing-wide student-run magazine UNIT-E together with classmate Ernest Li. The magazine is still in operation, the baton constantly being passed to a new generation of students.
